The HKCEC Usher in the Year of the Rabbit with Chinese New Year Delicacies


(9 January 2023) Restaurants at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), welcomes the Year of the Rabbit with exciting dining offers. Usher in the Chinese New Year with delicacies specially prepared by chefs of HKCEC restaurants.  From Gathering and Spring Reception Set Menus and fortuitous Chinese New Year puddings from The Atrium Chinese Restaurant to Superior Poon Choi from Harbour Kitchen and delightful sweet treats from Harbour Road Café, all are ideal for indulging with family and loved ones at gatherings during Chinese New Year.

Available from today until 5 February 2023, during lunch and dinner sessions, three auspicious set menus and an array of Chinese New Year a-la-carte dishes featuring prized ingredients curated by Executive Sous Chef Kon Chu Kwong are available at The Atrium Chinese Restaurant

The set menus each feature nine courses such as Braised Pomelo Peel with Shrimp and Sea Cucumber with Goose Web, Braised Abalone with Shiitake Mushroom in Ham Sauce, and Crispy Fried Chicken. A Chinese New Year meal is not complete without fish which symbolizes surplus in the year to come; the Giant Garoupa is served two ways – Steamed Fillet of Garoupa with Ham and Red Date as well as the luscious Baked Garoupa Belly.

The set menus are priced from HK$3,600 for 6 persons and from HK$7,200 for 12 persons. Upon ordering the set menus, guests can enjoy unlimited supply of soft drinks and chilled orange juice for two hours at an additional HK$78 per person. Tea and water charges cost HK$22 per person and all prices are subject to 10% service charge.

A delectable ensemble of festive dishes is also on the offer. The Braised Abalone with Conpoy and Goose Web, Shrimps and Seasonal Vegetables (HK$1,328 for 6 persons) that highlights unity and abundance, comprises of abalone, fish maw, scallops and shrimps etc. Other Chinese New Year favourites such as Braised Dried Oyster with Pork Tongue and Lettuce (HK$488) and Braised Conpoy with Shiitake Mushrooms (HK$368) symbolise good fortune in the year ahead.

Our Chefs have also prepared four traditional-style Chinese New Year puddings. For a savoury bite, the Turnip Pudding with Chinse Sausage, Preserved Meat and Conpoy is best pan-fried to golden for a crispy crust and fluffy interior; and the succulent Taro Pudding is made with premium Chinese sausage, preserved meat and X.O. sauce for a flavourful texture. Both savoury puddings are priced at HK$268 each (Early Bird Offer: HK$228).

Gourmands who fancy classic sweet Chinese New Year puddings (HK$198 each, Early Bird Offer: HK$168) must not miss the fragrant Coconut and Brown Sugar Pudding which uses only refined brown sugar and quality coconut milk, while the Water Chestnut and Sugar Cane Pudding gives the best of both worlds for its crunchy and chewy mouthfeel. 

Customers can enjoy the early bird offer for the Chinese New Year puddings for any purchase made on or before 13 January 2023. The redemption period is from 6 January to 20 January 2023 with orders must be placed at least three days in advance.

A communal dish originated in village communities to honour unity and prosperity, the Harbour Kitchen’s Superior Poon Choi (HK$1,288 for 6 persons, or HK$1,188 purchased on or before 13 January 2023), features 18 ingredients including Chilean abalone, shrimp, and poached chicken braised in a flavoursome broth made with yunnan ham, dried shrimp and dried octopus. The casserole is served alongside crispy fish skin and a mild mala sauce to welcome the new year with a spicy kick. The redemption period is from 13 January to 21 January 2023 with order must be placed at least 3 days in advance.

A crowd-pleasing gift at family and friends’ gatherings, Cakelicious at Harbour Road Café offers a selection of auspicious confections that brings sweet beginnings to the new year. Featuring the auspicious lucky bag motif and the iconic animal of the new zodiac year, the Lucky Bag Pinata and Let’s Hop to It from the pinata cake collection is made with a fluffy milk tea chiffon cake base with tapioca pearls and whipped salted sweet potato cream. Both cakes are prized at HK$888 for 8-10 persons.

Aptly representing prosperity and good fortune, individual cakes Mandarin Mojito (HK$68) is made with aged mandarin, rum and osmanthus jelly; and Salty but Sweet (HK$68) is a decadent chestnut chocolate mousse with salted egg yolk and marzipans.

The redemption period is from 22 January to 29 January 2023. Orders must be placed at least 4 days in advance for entremets and 5 days in advance for pinata cakes respectively.
