(3 May 2023) The Atrium Chinese Restaurant at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre welcomes warmer months with a medley of exciting new menus created by Executive Sous Chef Kon Chu-kwong, showcasing the best ingredients of the season and the authentic taste of Chinese cuisine. The Taste of Spices menu, with a collection of eight a-la-carte spicy dishes and dim sums; a lavish Abalone Superior Set Menu and two limited-time convivial Mother’s Day set menus are sure to excite.

Taste of Spices A-la-carte Menu
It is known that eating spicy food in Spring can combat tiredness and lethargy after cooler and damper months. Available daily for lunch and dinner until 30 June 2023, the Taste of Spices a-la-carte menu headlines eight classics reimagined dishes chiefly from the popular “Spicy” provinces, Sichuan and Hunan, that promise to dazzle on the palate. The Spicy Assorted Seafood Hot Pot (HK$388) is a must-try dish, made from a traditional house-made Maoxuewang broth upgraded with abalone, fish fillet, shrimp, scallop, squid together with Sichuan peppercorn and chillies to give a numbing sensation.

The Sour and Spicy Soup with Sliced Beef (HK$238) brings out a tinge of sourness and spiciness, thanks to its house-made broth of yellow and red capsicums, vinegar and chilli paste. The Kung Pao Prawns (HK$358), is a rendition of the traditional Kung Pao Chicken, with using premium local prawns for a flavoursome and tender texture. The Sichuan Peppercorn Chicken (Half: HK$228; Whole: HK$428) is marinated overnight and poached in a “medicinal“ bath of Sichuan peppercorn, star anise, dried chillies and ginger in low temperature.

The famous Fish Head in Chopped Chilli Sauce (Half: HK$298; Whole: HK$550) from Hunan Province presents a unique taste of savoury and spiciness, topped with chopped fermented red chillies and white peppercorn, then steamed to perfection.

Dim sum aficionados are invited to sample a trio of dim sums namely Sour and Spicy Fish Rolls (HK$62), Mini Kimchi Chicken Pies (HK$62) and Spicy Pork Buns (HK$60), available with a mild spicy kick to power you through the day.

Abalone Superior Set Menu
The Abalone Superior Set Menu is an exquisite eight-course menu priced from HK$688 per person (for a minimum of two persons), highlighting three authentic abalone dishes prepared in meticulous details.

The culinary journey begins with a delightful trio of appetisers — Wok-fried Salt-Gingered Abalone, Barbecued Pork and Yam with Pomelo and Honey Vinegar Sauce, followed by a nourishing double boiled soup by Chef Kon.

The Braised Abalone with Sea Cucumber and Shrimp Roe features braised 6-head abalone and sea cucumber with oyster sauce and shrimp roe atop is another must-try dish from the menu. Alternatively, guests can upgrade the sea cucumber steak to “Kanto Sea Cucumber” at an additional HK$250 per person for an elevated experience.

The meal is followed by a pleasant Stir-fried Egg White with Scallop topped with Caviar, Stir-fried Duck with Pumpkin and Bell Peppers alongside crispy rice cones, and Poached Seasonal Vegetables and Cordyceps Flowers in Soy Milk

No meal is complete without rice; the Fried Rice with Dried Shrimps is taken up a notch with a 12-head Abalone and savoury egg yolk. The set menu ends on a sweet note with a silky Ginger Milk Pudding

Available during dinner dine-in session, patrons can enjoy the Abalone Superior Set Menu at HK$598 only upon using any of the consumption voucher payment methods — Alipay, Octopus, PayMe by HSBC, Tap&Go, and WeChatPay.
