A Helping Hand to Reboot Convention and Exhibition Industry

A Helping Hand to Reboot Convention and Exhibition Industry

The Convention and Exhibition Industry Subsidy Scheme, launched by the HKSAR government, seeks to reinvigorate the industry and provide a boost to businesses.  The industry plays an important role in Hong Kong’s economy, and has been badly hit by the Covid-19 global pandemic.

The initiative comprises two parts, the first relating to the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, while the second provides subsidies to organisers of exhibitions and international conventions held between 3 October 2020 and 31 December 2021 at two locations, including the HKCEC.

The first part subsidises exhibitors of HKTDC-organised events 50% of their participation fees, subject to a cap of HK$10,000 per nine sq.m booth and 10 booths per exhibitor each time, while participants of major conventions receive a subsidy of 50%, subject to a cap of HK10,000 each time.

The second part, applicable to organisers, is equivalent to 100% of the venue rental. To align with the Government’s latest anti-epidemic measures, all organisers applying for the Subsidy from 18 February 2021 have to ensure that the events concerned comply with the health and anti-epidemic measures. HML appreciates this financial support provided by the government. The initiative recognises the significant economic contribution made by the industry. It will not only provide support to participants, but also facilitate the recovery of the industry as a whole.
