Wi-Fi is an absolute necessity in today's highly connected world, and HML is investing US$3.9 million to keep abreast of the latest technological developments. The revamp of the HKCEC's Wi-Fi infrastructure will enable users and visitors to enjoy an unlimited, complimentary Wi-Fi service that will be high speed, high density, and highly reliable.
The rebuilt system will feature the highest standard IEEE 802.11ac wave 2, as well as a new 10Gbps fibre network backbone for superb signal stability. It will include the installation of 660 new Wi-Fi access points and support Location Based Services (LBS) technology. LBS will allow organisers to analyse guest behaviour, improve crowd management and enhance the guest experience. The Wi-Fi project will take about one year to complete, and is set to be unveiled in Q3 of 2018.
