Boost for Asia-Pacific Art Scene
Art Basel has announced an impressive line-up of galleries for the sixth staging of its Hong Kong show, which takes place at the HKCEC in March. The portfolio of prominent returning galleries will be joined by 28 first-time exhibitors from around the world. Half of the newcomers have gallery spaces in Asia and the Asia-Pacific region: they come from every corner, including Auckland, Beijing, Busan, Daegu, Istanbul, Kyoto, Mumbai, New Delhi, Shanghai, Seoul, Taipei, Tehran and Tokyo. The other 14 debutants are based in Europe and the Americas. Of the returning galleries, Hong Kong is again strongly represented, with many of the city's big names in art taking part. There is a formidable presence from India, too.
"The Galleries" sector of the show presents painting, sculpture, drawing, installation, photography, and video works. "Insights" features presentations by artists with exceptional historical materials, and strong thematic exhibitions by 28 galleries. "Discoveries" focuses on solo shows by emerging artists.
