Hong Kong Tops Polls
Hong Kong has once again been named the world's freest economy,
according the US-based Heritage Foundation think-tank and
The Wall Street Journal. The annual survey measures data in
10 categories including trade, investment, banking and finance,
and property rights. This is the 15th year in a row that Hong
Kong has topped the list.
The latest annual report on urban competitiveness in China
puts Hong Kong at the top of the list of cities. The team
from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences that is behind
the seventh edition of the Blue Book on Urban Competitiveness
surveyed 294 cities on the mainland, and Taiwan, as well as
Hong Kong and Macau. They compared the cities' competitiveness
mainly based on the per unit area of GDP. Shenzhen and Shanghai
filled the other top three spots respectively.
View from the Summit
Cliff Wallace, HKCEC's Managing Director, attended the SISO
(Society for Independent Show Organisers) CEO Summit in San
Diego. HKCEC was one of the silver sponsors of the event,
which brings together top players in the industry. Not surprisingly,
there was plenty to talk about - not least the financial crisis
that is gripping the world right now. The title of the summit
was 'Navigating Uncharted Waters', with the aim of helping
members sail the right course to more profitable harbours.
Other hot topics included 'going green', online media and
matchmaking software.
