The annual Book Fair continues to go from strength to strength and is now the biggest book fair in the Chinese-speaking world. This year it celebrated its 20th edition, and welcomed a record-breaking number of exhibitors - around 500 from 20 countries and regions. Its success is attributed to a number of reasons, including Hong Kong's freedom of speech and publication, its thriving printing and publishing industry, and a growing interest in reading by the public.
It marked another landmark too, being the first public fair to be staged at HKCEC following the opening of the HKCEC expansion. Visitors to the show were able to enjoy one-third more exhibition space than before, with wider aisles and more leisure space. It was certainly an action-packed few days, with more than 200 cultural events organised during the show.
Advantage was made of this big fair to officially open the new extension. Officiating at the occasion were HKSAR Chief Executive Donald Tsang, HKTDC Chairman Jack So, former HKTDC Chairman Peter Woo, Executive Director Fred Lam and HKTDC Council members - an indication of the importance of the show and the new facilities. |
