Taste for Gold

It is not sportsmen and women who can win Olympic gold - chefs can too! The 22nd IKA / Culinary Olympics took place in October 2008 in Frankfurt, Germany. HKCEC chef Sam Chui was a part of the Hong Kong team that won one gold and three silver medals. This prestigious event, which cooks up a real storm in the culinary world, takes place every four years and brings together the world's best chefs. It is organised by the World Association of Chefs Societies and the German Chefs Association.

More success on the culinary front comes with the news that another HKCEC chef, Jean Ho, won a gold medal at the Tabasco Hot Chef Team Challenge organised by the Hong Kong Young Chefs Club (HKYCC). The event was held at Restaurant & Bar 2008 at the Centre in September, and was open to HKYCC's members aged between 18 and 25. The competition is a fun event as well as having a serious purpose and is designed to bring out the creativity in these young chefs.
