Online Enhancements

These days, it is vital for business people to be electronically connected, wherever they are and whatever they are doing. Users and visitors to events at HKCEC are no exception – in fact, for overseas visitors it is absolutely vital to be in touch with their offices back home.

To this end, Wifi services at HKCEC have been upgraded, enabling expanded coverage and increased numbers of concurrent users. Coverage is now available in more areas of the Centre, including meeting rooms, restaurants, registration concourse and theatres.

The internet gateway can now cater to up to 3,000 users at one time – double the previous capacity, while bandwidth has been upgraded to 40M. Users can access a number of applications, including instant messaging such as MSN, web browsing, email checking and VoIP applications, such as Skype.
Ways to Care

On the seventh day of the Chinese New Year – known as renri in Cantonese which means the birthday of all, more than 400 staff members from the NWS Holdings and 17 member companies, including HKCEC’s Managing Director Cliff Wallace and colleagues, attended the event together with 120 deprived elderly who do not know when their own birthdays are. Staff enjoy being involved in this activity and feel proud that they can help the community.

On a related note, HKCEC was recently rewarded with the “Five Years Plus Logo” in the Caring Company awards organised by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service. The awards are designed to recognise private companies that demonstrate good corporate citizenship.

The Centre was nominated by the Fu Hong Society and Hans Andersen Club Limited, both of which it works with to help the needy. The award takes into account volunteer activities and support, but also covers how the company cares for its own employees and the environment.
Cool Japanese Tastes
