The Hong Kong
Electronics Fair, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council,
has long been one of the HKCEC's premier events. The largest electronics
fair in Asia and the third largest worldwide, attendance has been
steadily increasing annually, until last year the HKCEC reached
capacity in hosting this event. In response, this year organisers
spun off companion event the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair
to allow more room for the Hong Kong Electronics Fair to expand.
And it looks like having been an astute move, if the figures for
the most recent Hong Kong Electronics Fair are anything to go by.
Running from 13 to 16 October 2003, this year's fair resulted in
a 25% increase in orders over last year, and saw attendances rise
yet again. In fact, the total of 48,291 buyers represented the highest
number in the history of the Fair, with well over half of these
buyers coming from outside Hong Kong. The Fair had a total of 1,950
exhibitors, sharing a combined exhibition area of over 49,000 square
metres, both of which figures represented a rise over last year.
Why is the Fair so popular? Because it brings together under one
roof the very latest electronic goods and gadgets in a multitude
of areas as diverse as audio and visual products, home appliances,
electronic accessories, multimedia and electronic gaming, security
products, telecommunication products, and office automation equipment.
A vast resource in a booming and ever-changing industry, the Hong
Kong Electronics Fair looks set to continue its success for many
years to come.
