New microphones
Q1. Some of the microphones we were using malfunctioned, with feedback occurring and disruption apparently caused by mobile phones. Can you do anything to solve this problem? (Asia Global Crossing Asia Pacific)
A. Gooseneck microphonesWe know that efficient AV equipment is vital for any kind of event, and we are always looking for the best methods to upgrade our equipment when troubles such as the one you encountered begin to arise. We have recently purchased 120 new sets of gooseneck microphones as replacement models. We want to be sure, however, that the new microphones do their job satisfactorily; we invited clients along to the demo of the new equipment and the result was encouraging.

Temperature fluctuation

Q2. The temperature inside our meeting room seemed to fluctuate, and we had no way of knowing whether it was at the correct level or not. Could you please check this and take further action if possible? (Principal Insurance Co (HK) Ltd)
A. Standard temperature settingIndividuals often react differently to temperature settings: what is too hot for one may be pleasantly cool for another, and this means that impressions of temperature fluctuation may not always be accurate. To help out, we have now installed gauges that show both temperature and humidity readings for each meeting room. These gauges will allow you to check for temperature fluctuations and reassure yourself that the atmosphere is set at an optimal level. For information, the standard temperature settings for meeting rooms at the Centre is 22-24 °C, while humidity levels are set to remain below 65%.

Mints served on meeting tables

Q3. We would like to suggest that you provide candies or mints as a small service for room users. (IOSCO Internet Project Team -- Asian Roundtable)
A. Thank you for this suggestion. We are always looking for ways to add service touches that enhance our customers' experience of the Centre, and this is an idea we have taken up. Read more about it in our Service Initiatives.

Directional signs

Q4. The HKCEC's reputation for quality services and facilities prompted us to book the 600 Series Meeting Rooms for an event. We were somewhat disappointed by the Centre's signage policy, however, as we were not allowed to place any directional signs to our event at the HKCEC entrance. (Labour Department)
A. The HKCEC's signage policy has been carefully designed to benefit all users, bearing in mind that on many days there may be more than 10 events taking place at the Centre. Before the current policy was fully implemented, two main negative results were consistently arising from an unregulated use of venue signage:
a diverse and confusing array of signage, with competing sizes, colours, positions and designs. The result was visually unattractive, disorienting, and generally unfair to smaller users of the Centre. It also led to the use of signs for promotional purposes, rather than simply way-finding;
a disregard for the Centre's own key signage information, namely the Event Directories at the main entrances and the blue way-finding signages throughout the HKCEC.
We hope you will agree that our signage policy does in fact make it easy and convenient for all users to locate their venues, and reflects fair and standard policies within the industry.
