HKCEC celebrates 22nd anniversary with clients and partners
(Hong Kong, 30 November 2010) Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Ltd (HML) hosted a cocktail reception this evening to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Over 300 clients, business associates, government officials and friends joined HML’s senior management executives and staff on this celebratory occasion.
Over the 22 years, HML has served 38,371 events and more than 63 million visitors. These events have contributed significant economic benefits to Hong Kong by not only nourishing Hong Kong’s event industry, but also generating beneficial spin-offs for the tourism, transportation, food and beverage and entertainment industries. These events have also created numerous jobs and raised Hong Kong’s international profile. More importantly, the numerous international trade exhibitions have provided the perfect and most effective platform for Hong Kong’s small and medium enterprises to showcase their products and services to buyers from all over the world. The benefits generated for the community make HKCEC truly a Landmark for Success for Hong Kong.
In his remarks, Mr Cliff Wallace, Managing Director of HML, thanked all clients and business partners for their support, “We are fortunate to be entrusted to manage a magnificent building located in the heart of Hong Kong. We take pride in serving expanding recurrent exhibitions and introducing new events to our portfolio. In the last fiscal year ending 30 June 2010, a total of 1,185 exhibitions, conventions, banquets, corporate and special events were held in HKCEC, a 10% increase from the previous year. This remarkable achievement is attributed to the dedication, professionalism, experience and creativity of 870 enthusiastic staff. We believe, when our customers succeed, we succeed.

Cumulative attendance to HKCEC events over the last 22 years exceeded 63 million. To welcome the approximate 4.8 million visitors in FY2009/10,
* 23,775 hours of guest information services were provided
* 12,814 pieces of event, directional and other signs were produced
Experience & enhancement ensure Success
HKCEC hosted a total of 38,371 events since its opening in 1988 through to 30 June 2010. In FY2009/10 alone, 1,185 exhibitions, conventions, banquets and special events were held here. The challenges to serve an average of 6 prestigious event clients a day were met with dedication, professionalism, experience and creativity of
* 25 senior management executives with a combined 236 years of experience at HKCEC
* 870 staff committed to service excellence, 373 of them with seniority of 10 years or above

Food for Success
During FY2009/10, 768,812 guests attended gala dinners for multinationals, corporate and association banquets, as well as weddings at the HKCEC. Additionally, 656,969 meals were served at the seven restaurants and 604,945 customers patronised concession stands for lunch boxes, hot dogs and coffee. Altogether, they have consumed
* 468,000 eggs
* 136,139 kg of rice
* 214,000 kg of fresh and frozen seafood
* 1,020,267 catty of vegetables
Behind the scene of Success
370 full time and part time housekeepers and stewards work round the clock to
* vacuum 306,000 sqm gross floor area
* sanitise 999 toilet cubicles
* launder 79,261 pieces of linen
* starch 15,562 uniforms
* polish, categorise and store 1,149,089 pieces of tableware
Maintaining Success
18,500 job orders of maintenance work, facility upgrade and improvement projects were completed in FY2009/10. The team is responsible for
* 87 escalators totally 1,092 metres in length, nearly double the height of Victoria Peak
* 21,500 bulbs and 25,800 fluorescent tubes
* 1,045 faucets in guest toilets
* 1,603 air conditioners and 13 chiller units
Sustaining Success
As responsible citizens of the earth, HML’s conscious green measures of ‘Re-use, Recycle, Reduce’ in FY2009/10 have resulted in
* 18,860 kg of glass bottles, 844 kg of plastic bottles and 116,026 kg of paper collected for recycling
* reduction of electricity consumption by 9.6% (kWh/
m2/day), water by 17.3% (
m3/
m2/day) and office paper by 3.64% (in volume)
