HKCEC experienced growth again during recent trading season

(Hong Kong, 21 December 2009)  After a record increase in activity during its first quarter of the fiscal year (July – September 2009), the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) has again experienced significant success in results with its exhibitions during October and November this year.

Total space contracted for exhibitions during the two-month period grew 17% compared with the same period last year; at the same time, total number of exhibitors and buyers also increased by 13% and 6% respectively.

Ten (10) recurrent international trade exhibitions reflected growth in gross exhibition space and/or the number of exhibitors and buyers. Among them, the three largest exhibitions utilized an average of 72,000 square metre of space, which included the Centre’s recent 20,000 square metre expansion:  The three (3) fairs were the 29th Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition), the world’s largest electronics fair; Mega Show Part 1, the most important Asian trade fair for gifts, housewares, premiums and toy industries; and Hong Kong International Lighting Fair.

In addition, two new trade exhibitions were successfully launched in November.   The Hong Kong International Medical Devices and Supplies Fair and 2009 GSMA Mobile Asia are both anticipating growth and additional exhibition space in future years at the Centre as indicated from these inaugural successes.

HKCEC’s Managing Director, Cliff Wallace stated, “Our expansion which opened this past April continues to benefit our major exhibition organizers in providing their much needed space for growth.  I am confident that planning for the Centre’s third expansion must remain a priority for further projected growth of these events.  Their exhibitors and buyers are dependent of the central location of the HKCEC and it’s proximity to Hong Kong’s excellent hotels and amenities.”
